Introduction
Dear Friends,
For months now, I have been disheartened by the lack of progress in addressing what I believe is the greatest threat to human civilization — climate change. It has become painfully obvious that we cannot count on governments to do what needs to be done, at least not soon enough!
Luckily, I recently ran across an old friend who told me that he had also been down in the dumps about this dilemma. Fortunately, he had decided to something about it, and sent me a list of links to organizations that are working hard to get the ball moving. In exploring these sites, I found that the amount of information was at first overwhelming. But the emphasis is clear — there are positive things that the average person can do to make a difference.
I’m hoping that I might make a difference by lobbying my friends to think a bit more about this problem and make a contribution. My idea is to put out an occasional email that will offer a very basic explanation of one aspect of climate change, and offer a few simple suggestions of things you can do to help. The problem is huge, but there are many avenues to address it. If I can convince a few of you to make a single positive change, I’ll consider it well worth the effort. Even better if a few pick up the ball and run with it!
Some of you may be rolling your eyes! I understand, and if you don’t want to be part of this group, please just let me know and I’ll take you off the list.
All the best,
Doug Hylan
